Welcome to my Website

Hi and welcome to my website! I’ve produced it as a way of getting some of my thoughts across and also to give a bit of an insight into my life – and life at Watford FC.

Being a football fan myself, I know something like this could well be of interest to fans of not only Watford but perhaps even other clubs. I’d like to hear what you think – good, bad or indifferent – and you’ve always got the ‘X’ button at the top of your browser if it’s not for you!

About Richard

Goalkeeper

Nationality:

English

Date of Birth:

October 5, 1982

Place of Birth:

Oxford

Clubs:

  • Watford
  • Blackburn (Loan)

Everyone likes a challenge – but goalkeeper Richard Lee seems to love them! Since his Watford debut in March 2003, he’s been injured, dropped, reinstated, loaned out, recalled and, most recently, made captain of a table-topping side. A Hornets’ Academy scholar, Richard trained with the Hertfordshire club from the age of 10, progressing through the ranks to become a mainstay of Watford’s matchday squad for the last five seasons.

That’s not to say life’s always been rosy; Richard has a fractured cheekbone and broken upper arm bone to remind him a keeper’s life is definitely for lunatics only.

This season, he played over 40 games as Watford pushed - ultimately unsuccessfully - to regain their place in the Premiership. It's more games than he's ever played before in one season – a testament to a hard-work ethic and dedication to excellence.

Running Down The Clock

As the game against Preston was drawing to a close, we held the ball in the far corner of the field, using a common method of running out time - a random thought entered my head and one that has been in my mind a lot this week.

I personally don’t agree with the current method used to time football and I’ll tell you my...

Q. Howdy I came over from the US a year ago and I saw my first high octane soccer match on the weekend and now I am a converted Watford fan! I really would like to start playing football as it looks really fun! Do you need any qualifications to become a professional footballer as I have just got a US PE qualification which is equivilant to a B in your GCSEs? I was thinking of becoming a goalkeeper as you do not seem to move very much which is great for me because I am not that energetic but I do take up allot of room. PS Up the Hornets and congratulations on your century of games!!!

Thanks, Well I'm pleased you enjoyed the game so much!!  and as for GCSE's, most of the lads have less than you already have so that won't be an issue!!  I wish you all the luck in the world in your pursuit of a professional contract....

Q. Hello Richard, I am being coached at Crystal Palace Academy by your old coach Colin Barnes, I realise he is one of the best in the country, but what was the most important thing you learnt from him and why? Also, What Do you think is the most important aspect of goalkeeping? I believe that is to have great presence in the goal and for players around you, what do you think?? Thanks. Gregaz U14.

Hi,  Yeah Colin is excellent, very wide knowledge of the game but most importantly with me he thought outside the box, he put on many drills for me that have helped me with my spring and agility and being smaller than most keepers that was...
