Safety At Last...

A thrilling comeback against Coventry put to rest any fears of the drop and we emerged victorious by three goals to two at the Ricoh Arena.

In many ways the game summed up our season: we were poor in large patches of the game but showed great character and resolve to fight back against the odds and, deservedly in the end, secured our place in the Championship for another season.

The game looked out of reach at two goals down with time running out but goals fr ...

We Won't Get The Blues

A disappointing end to the week as we went down to Birmingham.

The positive that did come from the weekend were the defeats for both Norwich and Barnsley which, barring a mathematical catastrophe, guarantees Championship football for us next season.

The game itself was one that, in truth, Birmingham edged. Scott was called into action on several occasions and made some excellent stops and, in my opinion, was our star performer on the day. This was a great tes ...

Work To Do Yet

With a busy Easter weekend schedule I’ve decided to write this after the Norwich game, meaning I have three games to report on this week.

The first came against Southampton; as you could imagine we were disappointed to only gain a point after a fantastic last-minute free-kick denied us all three. But, in truth, after our first-half display we would probably have taken a point and, on balance, it was probably a fair result.

It was also very important ...

Half Century - and Safety?

The figure of 50 points was reached yesterday after a very accomplished performance away at Doncaster Rovers and a 2-1 victory.

The result means we are now eight points clear of trouble and still have Tuesday’s game in hand. It’s been quite a run that has seen us draw towards safety; in fact after 30 games we had 30 points so to have 50 points after 40 games is quite an achievement and certainly bodes well for next season.

The game itself ...

Karting King!

A quiet week due to the international break we find ourself in.

What it does mean is that I can go into detail regarding the Go Karting trip we went on this week (as I mentioned last week). And I’m happy to report I did indeed emerge victorious!

Twenty-eight players and staff took part; it was held at the Daytona track in Milton Keynes and was a very enjoyable day, although I guess I would say that as I won!

The race itself was v ...

Goalless But Not Chance-less

Only one point to show for our efforts this week - but two more promising performances mean we edge ever closer to guaranteed safety.

The Cardiff game was a sickener for all involved for so many reasons. The fact that an extra two minutes were played from nowhere, the question as to whether it was a penalty or not etc., but thankfully we were able to take the positives from the performance and didn’t allow it to affect us.

Six Down To Four

It was almost the perfect week but a last-minute penalty meant that it was "only" four points out of a possible six this week.

Yesterday’s game was one that would end in frustration after a debatable penalty cost us the three points. In truth, though, after the first 40 minutes I’m sure most of us would’ve taken a point, we really didn’t get going and thanks to a very bizarre own-goal we had a lifeline that ...

Top Turn-Around

A great end to the week with a vital win over Charlton in dramatic circumstances at The Valley.

A great second-half performance meant three points returned to The Vic thanks to goals from Don, Tamas and a superb volley from Grzegorz. We always knew it'd be a tough game so to get the victory at such a vital stage of the season meant a good trip home on the coach after the game.

The week didn't start so well after losing away at Plymouth. It's always a g ...

And another 2-0!

Well another game and another 2-0 scoreline!

Not the prettiest game we’ll ever see but we were able to show a different side to our play in overcoming a physical Crystal Palace team.

I was pleased for Don who has been first-class since joining last month and really took his goal well - another positive addition I’m sure.

Palace did have a number of half-chances but I think we created the more clear-cut chances on the da ...

Twice As Nice!

Well what a fantastic week! Successive 2-0 victories see us climbing out of the relegation zone in some style and with games in hand over those around us.

Tuesday night was a great night. We faced an in form Swansea team, a real test for us. We went into the game with confidence on the back of our performance against Chelsea and it certainly showed. Two superb goals and a very solid defensive display saw us run out quite comfortable winners in the end and even meant we claimed t ...
