Two Near Misses & More Change

Two promising performances but nothing to show for our efforts in another busy week at The Vic.

For those who were fortunate enough to have a ticket for the Spurs game, I’m sure they’ll agree with me that for 20 minutes or so you would have been hard pushed to have guessed who the Premiership side wa. Credit to Tottenham in that they did up their game and showed some fighting spirit when it mattered and were able to edge past us on their way to the semi.

As there often is with the cup you are left with a feeling of ‘what if’ - and this year was no different. We knew that if we could have won we’d have been in with an unbelievable chance of making the final and maybe even Europe (With Manchester United being the other possible finalist).

It's a shame but we did have a fantastic run and in particular the wins against both West Ham and Swansea were quite special. This year wasn’t meant to be our year but in recent years we really have turned into cup specialists which I think is something to be proud of.

The Birmingham game was another in which we got off to a fast start and deservedly took the lead, unfortunately a couple of soft goals from our point of view pegged us back and despite a lot of pressure second half we couldn’t get back on level terms and had to leave empty-handed.

The signs are there, we know we are close and we are not content on just saying that week-in week-out, we’ve got a big week coming up and I’m convinced it will bring positive outcomes.

On another note I’s like to give my fellow keeper a mention. Since stepping in for me, Scott's made a number of fine saves. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he’s one to keep an eye on.

Away from football this week also included a trip to the bowling alley where a few of the lads took on some of the kids who are part of the Watford community scheme. It was a fun evening (made more fun by the fact that I won against my group!). For those who don’t know about Watford's community scheme, they do a lot of unseen work which benefits Watford in a big way and the bowling evening is just one of many events held throughout the year.

Another note was the departure of our chairman Graham Simpson. I've been here throughout his tenure and have experienced both the highs and lows that the club have experienced in his time. It will mean more change at The Vic but I’m sure it won’t have an effect regarding on-field activities.

Another week over and another busy week ahead as we approach Christmas, a week filled with promise, Two homes games that we’ll approach with confidence.  Hopefully things behind the scenes will begin to settle down now and the focus will be on some good performances on the field and good results which will surely follow.

Take care...
