A much better weekend after a seven-goal thriller at The Vic sees us into the last 16!
Unfortunately I wasn’t there to see it myself due to illness but have spoken to a couple of the lads and, barring the final 10 minutes where by all accounts we made it tough for ourselves, our performance was one of the best yet. I even heard that Jay smashed one in from 20 yards! I’m looking forward to seeing that on TV.
As I said I caught a bit of a bug which struck Friday evening and I didn’t get much sleep Friday night so I called Andy Rolls (our physio) and he said to rest at home until Monday. I’m sure I’ll be fine to train on Monday.
The week itself was a good one although the weather made training a bit tricky, high winds and rain meant the pitches were a bit heavier than normal and the balls were swerving about more than they would usually.
There was a bit of movement out of The Vic this week in the shape of Lionel Ainsworth and Theo Robinson. Lionel has signed for Huddersfield in search of regular football, it is a shame it never quite happened for him at Watford because he is a very talented player, I’m sure he’ll do well at Huddersfield and I wish him all the best.
Theo has gone on loan to Southend. He had a great time at Hereford last season and once again I think it’s the need of regular football which is vital at his age. Theo’s a goalscorer and will do a good job for Southend I’m sure.
A busy couple of weeks ahead for us now with four big league games that could have a big impact on our season. We start with Burnley on Tuesday, a team that have exceeded expectations in both the cups and league this season so will undoubtedly provide a tough test. It will also mean a return for Clarke Carlisle who I have no doubt will get a warm reception.
This week also signals the last week of the transfer window, always an exciting week and I’m sure we won’t have seen the end of the action at Watford FC just yet.
Have a nice week.
