It was almost the perfect week but a last-minute penalty meant that it was "only" four points out of a possible six this week.
Yesterday’s game was one that would end in frustration after a debatable penalty cost us the three points. In truth, though, after the first 40 minutes I’m sure most of us would’ve taken a point, we really didn’t get going and thanks to a very bizarre own-goal we had a lifeline that we built upon in the second half.
We were much improved and in after going 2-1 up we should’ve finished them off and had many chances to do so. In the end, we paid the price but still gained a place in the table and are a point closer to assured safety this season.
The midweek game - on the other hand - was a great night for all Watford fans, the football was of a high standard and the fans sang throughout (as they have done for quite a few games on the spin now!). It really does feel like the buzz is back at The Vic and it is becoming an increasingly hard place for visitors to come. Two well taken goals meant a 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Forest.
This week also saw Jimmy Russo taking over as Chairman. Jimmy is a regular down at the training ground, so I think he's a popular choice amongst the lads and hopefully is another step in the right direction for Watford FC.
The week ahead once again has two games in prospect and two tough games at that; promotion-chasers Cardiff City and Ipswich Town will host us as we try and make the most of the games in hand we currently have.
We realise that if we were to get a couple of positive results then the idea of making the Play-Offs wouldn’t be completely unrealistic, we would probably need to win eight of our last nine games, but stranger things have happened!
First things first, all being well I hope to report next week that Championship safety is all but guaranteed and, from there, who knows.
