No doubt who Rich wanted as new Watford boss - quite a week, what with the fixtures out as well
Well after the speculation we now all know that Malky will be taking charge of us next season.
Speaking to my Watford friends I know this to have been the popular choice amongst most. For those who know Malky, they know he’s a good man who will work hard to push the club in the right direction - and look to approach our football the Watford fans want.
I made it no secret that I believed Malky to be the best candidate for the job and I’m sure the rest of the squad will agree. I’ve spent the past few years alongside Malky - for the most part as a player - and he’s always been a big character and the loudest member of the squad.
We eat together at lunch and when Malky is on your table he’ll hold court and is comfortable being the centre of attention. The players have huge respect for him and these qualities combined will, in my opinion, hold him in good stead for what he has ahead. What he does have in store isn’t an easy job by any stretch of the imagination but it's one that I personally am feeling quite optimistic about.
The club finds itself still in financial trouble but we have good people in the right places now and as far as I’m concerned we have some very talented players on staff. The Championship is an incredibly tight league so, if we can hit the ground running, there's no question it can lead to plenty more exciting times for Watford.
The fixtures were also announced this week; an interesting start to our campaign, some very tough games but games that will mean we can approach the first few weeks with justifiable confidence.
We also have the prospect of some appetising friendlies including Parma at The Vic early August.
Good times ahead.
