Rich reports on a largely successful first pre-season run-out, and there's a quick word on some of the specific training the squad have been experiencing this second week back.
A good week’s training topped off by a comprehensive defeat of Boreham Wood.
For those who couldn’t make the game, we were three up within the space of about 20 minutes and were comfortable from then on.
Young Academy product Michael Bryan made an impact with a fantastic individual effort and new signing Danny Graham showed his eye for goal too. It was disappointing not to keep a clean sheet that, on the performance, we deserved but all in all there were plenty of positives to take from our first outing this term.
There was also positive news from Tring where our other side managed a comprehensive 6-0 victory.
Training itself has been tough; all the work we do involves a football which is different from years gone by. Gone are the days of running up hills endlessly and long-distance running at vicarage road. Everything now is game specific, which is much more preferable although just as tough.
We’ve had plenty of possession drills and small-sided games, then afternoon sessions have been largely position-specific; so for goalkeepers and forwards that means plenty of finishing, which again although physically quite draining it’s certainly beneficial.
So another tough week ahead ending with a game. The training is set to be tougher than last week, again double sessions all week. I’ll be sure to report on how it goes!
