Rich's first game since last year - a clean sheet at Barnet - and some Sheffield reflections are in this week's diary entry.
A disappointing result against Sheffield United casts a shadow on what had been a good week.
The week started well with a tough 2-0 victory over Barnet in the cup after extra time. It was a game on that on paper some had down as a potential banana skin but thankfully goals from Mike and Scott meant that we progress to play Leeds in the next round.
From a personal point of view, it was great to get a game again. It’s been a while since my last appearance against Barnsley last season, the best part of eight months ago in fact, so I was delighted to start and happy with how it went.
My game in general was tidy and I was pleased to make an important save towards the end of the game to help force extra-time. I’m hoping I won’t have to wait quite so long for my next appearance!
We were disappointed with the Sheffield result. In truth there wasn’t a great deal between the teams, they had slightly more in terms of a physical presence but considering they are one of the favourites for promotion I honestly don’t believe we are that far off.
We were annoyed with the goals because they were soft and down to us rather than great play from them, so again lessons to learn but we’ll be out on the training ground again this week to ensure we get better results in the next couple of games which are coming thick and fast.
This week we have the trip up to Nottingham on the Tuesday and then a home game against Blackpool on Saturday. There are no easy games in this division but we’ll be going into both those games looking for three points.
No comings or goings this week to report and only two weeks until the transfer window closes so I’m sure there’ll be some news on that front by the end of the month.
I’ll be back next week, have a great week - Rich
